The postpartum period is a sacred window.

Postpartum care is deeply rooted in the honor and support of the birthing person, the newborn(s), and their new family. Some of my fondest memories growing up were visiting family members postpartum. The familiar smell of miyeokguk (seaweed soup), the hush-hush of a halmoni telling me to be quiet as to not disturb the parents and baby… I remember arriving gently into that space of newness and healing, and recognizing that there was something profound about this time that deserved to be protected.

The postpartum period can be a lot of things. It can be wonderful; it can be scary. It can be hard, blissful, and an emotional rollercoaster, all at once! All of these emotions are important, and all are welcome here. It is an honor to be able to come and meet you and your family where you are at, and to help tend to what needs to be tended to. My role as postpartum doula is to ensure that you as the birthing parent are nourished, cared for, and feeling supported as you navigate healing from birth and taking care of the little one(s).

A postpartum doula is a non-medical assistant during the postpartum period. We provide emotional, educational, and physical support for the birthing person as well as the family, on all matters postpartum. We are there to help a new family in those first days, weeks, and months postpartum. Postpartum doulas may assist during the day/evening or the night as they help the family transition into life with a new little life! We are great for families who may not have extra support around from relatives or community, for those who have had difficult labors/birth, for those who are feeling overwhelmed and are needing support in feeling more confident in their parenting, and just because! Everybody deserves support. We are not supposed to go through our postpartum time alone. The postpartum period is an important time of a birthing person’s life to be tended to, cared for, and honored in their healing and rest while they do the work of tending to baby.

I would love to be one of these people for you!

Day/Evening Postpartum Shifts

Rates: 4-hour minimum | Sliding Scale: $50-65

Day/evening postpartum care with me looks like supporting your family in ways that are most useful to you, including but not limited to:

  • Education on postpartum issues, concerns, and subjects

  • Support navigating postpartum mood and anxiety disorders (PPMADS) — creating safety plans prenatally, and offering support navigating them postpartum

  • Herbal support to tend to your emotional, physical, and spiritual body (including herbal baths, teas, pelvic steaming, etc.)

  • Ear acupuncture for supporting your body in regulating your nervous system and dealing with pain (5NP) — I always have my ear needles & seeds with me!

  • Moxibustion education and facilitation for postpartum healing as well as emotional support

  • Cooking — I love cooking healing or comforting meals for families. I prioritize postpartum nutrition from a Chinese/Korean medicine lens, and love making meals for families. It’s also important to me to bring in your comfort foods, culturally relevant foods, or to whip things up from what’s in the fridge :).

  • Support with the emotional, physical, and spiritual recovery of the birthing person

  • Emotional support and nurturing for the new parents, as well as the main support people

  • Light housekeeping so that that you don’t have to worry about the kitchen dishes piling up, vacuuming, or things like that

  • Taking care of baby while you (and your partner if applicable) get some rest, take care of yourselves, spend time with older siblings, or take care of things that you need to take care of

  • Or supporting you by being with your baby by bringing you food, snacks, letting you rest, changing baby’s diaper, and supporting the parent-baby dyad

  • Offer reassurance as well as evidence-based information on postpartum topics

  • Washing and sanitizing the never-ending cycle of bottles and pump parts

  • Running errands so that you can rest!

  • Guidance with newborn care, feeding, baby soothing, and baby wearing techniques

  • Sibling support/care

  • Breastfeeding/chestfeeding/bottle-feeding support

  • Referrals to local resources such as, but not limited to, perinatal mental health support services, parenting classes, pediatricians, lactation support, and other support groups

  • Infant/child/adult CPR and First Aid as needed

  • Herbal support including teas, sitz baths, herbal baths, and tincture blends that are supportive of your overall health and balance (as requested in advance)

Nighttime Postpartum Shifts

Rates: 8-hour minimum | Sliding Scale: $55-$65

Overnight postpartum shifts are a little different:

Overnight postpartum doulas often focus primarily on tending to the baby during the nighttime, so that you can get the rest that you need. That is the primary focus. This will look like me spending time in a spare room or living room with baby, resting when they rest, gently waking parent up when it is time for feeding, (unless the baby is bottle fed, in which I will feed baby!), and being with the baby in their cycle of sleep and wake, diaper changing and soothing, while you are able to get the rest that your body needs.

I will also do quiet chores as needed, including folding baby laundry, washing/sanitizing pumping supplies and bottles, and ensuring that you are comfortable while you feed/pump.

During overnight shifts, if you’re awake to nurse/feed/pump, and want a buddy to sit and talk with, I’m also there for this! I have had such beautiful conversations during overnight shifts with parents. I am also more than happy to just let you do what you gotta do quietly.

24-hr care

Rates: $1,560 for full shift

I offer 24-hour postpartum care services on a case-by-case basis. This looks like me being at your home with you for a full 24-hour shift, including night-time care and daytime care, with some breaks built in when it is easeful. This can be helpful when your family needs a reset, for single parents, when everybody is burnt out, etc!
