Meet Jin

My name is Jin (they/them), and I am a queer and genderfluid korean person based in Tacoma WA, on un-ceded Puyallup lands. I am a birth and postpartum doula, a budding community herbalist, and am so grateful to be doing this work.

Since I was young, I’ve been drawn to the liminal and transitional spaces of our lives, and to figuring out how we can navigate them with care and support. Birth and the postpartum time are sacred portals, and it is such a gift to be present for these times in people’s lives. It is healing, humbling, and such a deep honor.

I was raised in community by Korean and Japanese women, who showed me love and care and safety as I navigated violent circumstances. They taught me that although we often cannot protect each other from the harms of life, that we can bear witness, create space for softness and safety, and that relationships can be places of deep healing where other worlds become possible.

Feeling empowered in our bodily autonomy and choices is a big deal, and is not something that is encouraged in our world. Much of my professional work has been in youth survivor support, domestic and sexual violence survivor advocacy, and consent/healthy relationship education. I believe that we learn so much about ourselves and each other through being reminded that we deserve safety, choice, and joy, and that we learn that so deeply from ourselves, each other, plants, animals, community, and land.

This work is my heart work. I’m grateful for it. When I’m not doing birth work, holding sweet squishy babies and tending to birthing people, I’m spending a lot of time at the water seal-watching and journaling, snuggling with my pets, eating well, laughing big belly laughs with chosen fam, and being silly (as a lifestyle). I am often at my altar, or doing qi gong, or reading sci-fi. I love my own company, and am often engaging with my own creative practices of writing and feeling inspired and building with earth/plant/spirit, or being with trusted others and being an absolute dokkaebi goblin.

I’m grateful for the mentors and the communities that I learn with/commune with, from folks at Canoe Journey Herbalists, Center for Indigenous Midwifery, Blue Otter School, and the QTBIPOC community members who teach me about love, joy, and liberation.

I’m constantly working on different projects and love bopping in and out of different realms. You can check a few out if you’d like!

Welcome, welcome, welcome. I’m hoping we can connect soon.
